Icelandic black metal powerhouse Nexion will release their long-awaited debut album, Seven Oracles, on Summer Solstice.

The nature of existence, and human value and meaning are central themes in every religion, every spirituality, and countless philosophies. It is thus fitting that Nexion’s new work concerns itself with these subjects. Seven Oracles is a revelatory “Proclamation” of mythic proportions.

The album cover portrays a seven headed beast appearing before a figure who offers it up a libation in exchange for wisdom within a self-conflating world. Each of the beast’s heads is its own oracle. Its own song. Its own message for the receiver. Three of the heads, the wolf, the lion, and the hound, are derived from occult medieval depictions of the past, present and future, whose merged voices know no higher authority.

Each oracle addresses the nature of existence from a different angle, revealing and tearing away upheld “truths” like the serpent who gnaws the roots of Yggdrasil. Each song is a dagger, each chord is poison, and each utterance is fire, destroying the receiver’s sense of existential belief, until there is nothing left. At last, in the final song, “The Last Messiah”, named in honor of the Norwegian philosopher, Peter Wessel Zapffe, Nexion’s eschatological solution to replace all others is revealed in all of its terrible beauty.

Seven Oracles will be out June 20th on digital, CD and colored LP. Preorders will open May 8th.

The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!! sachavonkarl74

NONE a opéré un virage dans Where Life Should Be et ça se confirme davantage dans Damp Chill of Life. Le temps des métaphores est révolu : l'humidité froide, c'est celle des larmes qui coulent sur le visage à cause de la dépression. Tout pleure dans cet album : les guitares typées DSBM grésillent, les solos ("The Damp Chill of Life", "It's Painless To Let Go") sont liquides et coulent, les voix prennent à la gorge ; même le piano, étranglé par les sanglots ("Cease"), est aphone. PSA: if there was an album you heard a couple years ago and thought it was ok, listen to it again and you might love it. That's what happened to me with this album. I cannot fathom why it didn't stick with me back then. Same thing happened with Decoherence's Unitarity for that matter. Matten

A truly stellar death/doom album with heavy doses of black metal. Tracks like Isolation, Child of Light, and Broken Hymns deliver the sorrowful and icy tone of this album, elevated by the stirring cello compositions of Raphael Weinroth-Browne. The album delivers a deeply satisfying crescendo in Becoming Intangible before stirring the soul once again with Epilogue. Matt Richardson
