RJ Immensely deep and atmospheric black metal chronicling the death and subsequent rebirth of Mother Earth. This album is ambitious, highly meditative, and emotional. Ideally it should be listened to not only with the right mindset but in one playthough and on headphones or good quality speakers. 8/10 Favorite track: Mirror.

Dave Aftandilian I love the paired reflections here; the darkness and light, rage and calm, despair and hope. From suffering and introspection come rebirth, in nature and ourselves. For me, the thought that nature will endure past humanity’s worst assaults makes this album a beautiful gift of hope in dark times.

Ippocalyptica If you liked Olhava’s Frozen Bloom (which should be true for every fan of atmospheric / post-black metal), you will appreciate Reborn as this album is, in a word, more. The songs are longer. The walls of noise are denser. The ambient pieces are more introspective. The emotional impact is more devastating. I have seen some people say that the “metal portions” are amazing but the ambient pieces drag down the whole affair. Rubbish! Each piece enhances the others, with the result being…more. Favorite track: Mirror.

A little more than a year after the acclaimed, massive Frozen Bloom, Olhava is back with a brand new studio album.

Reborn explores yet another side of the relationship between man and nature. In a darker turn, the duo presents a more pessimistic and cautionary reflection on the environment in contrast to their previous albums.

“Reborn is a story about a man who forgot what brought him here. Who neglected a precious, parental, and primordial bond with nature; who unconsciously destroys the one and only home we all share, along with himself. The irreversible damage we do to our environment will see mankind “beheaded”, whilst nature and life itself will thrive eternally.

We’d like to believe though that if we realised the value of that bond and embraced it, we’d be given a glimpse of hope in this fatalistic madness - a chance to be spared.
