A Grief Observed

Marty Overall, a strong moving record, can sense the fight, very enchanting, due to a wide tonal contrast that never feels off, and manage to encapsulated one despite its wide sonic landscape. As climbing a mountain to discover the peak to be an outstretched plateau populated with distant trees and boulders near to hand. A strong poetic atmospheric post-metal record. Favorite track: Past the Lights.

spawnofchaos A very atmospheric post/black/doom metal album. Great tonal contrast both vocally and instrumentally. Favorite track: Take Another Sip.

Prepare to drift to another place with this album. It moves emotional mountains - its slightly unorthodox vocal delivery and cello sections giving it a nice little platform of its own to work with. Favorite track: A Grief Observed.
Obstacle of Affliction

Obstacle of Affliction A mighty display of post-metal colliding together under the influence of intense lyrical and emboldened vocal delivery. Favorite track: A Grief Observed.

Metallurgical Fire Quite a beautiful album. The cello parts add a great deal. Powerful vocals. A very moving piece. It reminds me somewhat of how I felt listening to Iris by Altars of Grief.

about

Please buy digital album from the Artist own Bandcamp!

Formed in 2010 by famed American black metal musician Jeff Wilson (formerly of Abigail Williams, Wolvhammer, and Nachtmystium) and drummer Bob Fouts (formerly of The Gates of Slumber and Apostle of Solitude), the group released a self-titled post-black metal EP in 2012 before going totally silent. It was unfortunate as the EP was quite good, eschewing the style’s typical melodrama in favor of grounded riffs that recalled a more understated version of An Autumn for Crippled Children. Seven years later, the band has recruited vocalist James Benson (Amiensus) for their long-awaited full-length debut, A Grief Observed.

For those who are looking for a post-metal album that thrives in a stagnant genre post metal is known to be, I bring forth A Grief Observed. I could write an entire essay on the thematic concepts this album covers in tandem with the musicality found, painting a sonic landscape of a destitute and barren field that grief embodies. However, a picture is worth a thousand words, and Chrome Waves does an excellent job showing us why.
